
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology held a magnificent, colourful graduation ceremony, complete with music and songs, to present scrolls to 429 graduands from 30 countries recently. The successful students were from six faculties and two academies.
The university has witnessed several milestones this year. It has organised a total of four graduation ceremonies this year, including one at its Botswana campus in Gaborone and another in London. Nearly 1,000 graduates from three campuses in three continents have graduated.
In conjunction with the graduation at its Gaborone campus, the university bestowed an honorary doctorate on the former President of Botswana, Festus Mogae. At the Mandela Foundation building in Johannesburg, it also conferred another honorary doctorate on the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela.
It staged the first-ever graduation of the Generasi Baru students from FELDA settlements at its Cyberjaya campus, where the guest of honour and Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was conferred an honorary doctorate.
Limkokwing operates campuses in Kuching, China, Indonesia, Cambodia, the United Kingdom, Botswana and Lesotho.
The Botswana campus has the largest number of students as its three campuses there, including the latest, accommodate 12,000 students in total.
With Limkokwing University poised to be in four continents text year with the opening of the campus in New York, the future looks bright for a private Malaysian tertiary institution that is making waves in the international scene.
Foreign dignitaries, parents and guest witnessed a graduation that had an international feeling as besides Malaysia, students come from 30 countries.
These include Bosnia, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Iran Seychelles, Botswana, Tanzania, Brunei, South Korea, India, Spain, the United States, Macedonia, Britain, Sri Lanka, Philippines, China, Sudan, Myanmar, Oman, Taiwan, Uganda, Somalia, Kenya, Maldives, Mauritius, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The University has more than 20,000 students worldwide in its six campuses, with its students coming from 140 countries and its website has registered more than 50 million hits.
A total of 25 students received awards for outstanding performance which included 13 young achievers award, and six each for the Limkokwing high achievers and Limkokwing excellence awards.
Another 53 students were proud recipients of awards from 10 corporate and government agency sponsors, including Microsoft, Multimedia Development Corporation, Nestle, Pavilion, Bernama, Malaysian Branding and Packaging Design Academy, Tesco and L’Oreal.
The graduation ceremony was interspersed with songs performed by Limkokwing University students that touched the hearts of guests, parents and graduates alike.
