Limkokwing students mark closure of semester with a party @ Wings

Limkokwing students proved that not only do they study hard but they also party hard by celebrating the highly anticipated end of semester by organizing an “After Exam Party” held in the newly revamped Wings that set just the right atmosphere to relax and unwind entertained by an amazing line-up of performers and music spun by Limkokwing’s very own DJ Armani.

Around 100 students from Limkokwing as well as students and their friends from other colleges in Kuching were entertained with acoustic sessions by Limkokwing students Ahmad Azril and Sharon as well as Limkokwing’s very own staff and student led bands, Mayze and United Kids of Oi.

The party kicked off with a compelling performance by Sharon Lugun who managed to captivate the crowd with an ideal clash of her creativity and talent. A rising singer-songwriter, Sharon performed five songs for the night including two of which were written by her and a witty cover of Micheal Jackson’s “Man In The Mirror” to commemorate the King of Pop’s passing.

“I am honoured to have been invited to perform here tonight. The crowd was supportive throughout the night which I think is vital for the growth of an aspiring artiste and I thank Limkokwing for offering me the chance to stride myself up to another platform,” said Sharon after delivering her mesmerizing tunes.

Mayze continued to get the crowd’s adrenaline running high with a potent display of four of the band’s self-written songs. Mayze portrayed a precise example of Limkokwing’s multitalented staff with our Mass Communication lecturer, Sufian leading the band on vocals and Salleh, a Computer Science lecturer on bass guitar. Complementing the band on drums is Ajet and Am on lead guitar.

The hype did not stop there as United Kids of Oi took on the stage to showcase a creative fusion of punk rock and ska. The masses were up on their feet upon hearing the familiar tunes of Bob Marley’s epic number, “No Woman No Cry”, in true Oi style. Kojack, also a Limkokwing first year Mass Communication student led the band on vocals and rhythm guitar. Adding beats and harmony to the band is David on drums, Roger on lead guitar and Saypul handling bass guitar.

“As a representative of the student council I must thank everyone present tonight for attending this pioneer event and I hope that there will be more to come as we grow together in making Limkokwing a fun and exciting place to study as well as mingle with friends of every background,” says Louis Lai, a Mass Communication second year student who held an important role in making the event a success.

After the dynamic band performances, DJ Armani took over the consul and spun out the latest hits which got the entire student body to the floor for some energetic dancing.

Another gifted student, Ahmad Azril took the opportunity to belt out some tunes when we began the open mic session. The audience was impressed with his talent and capability to perform spontaneously which goes to show that we do have individuals from the younger generation who are not afraid to rise up to the challenge when it comes to displaying their passion in whatever they do.

With its great décor and lighting, as well as good food, Wings@Limkokwing is now poised to become the perfect venue for holding parties and gatherings.
