The inaugural MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Digital Content Conference, organized by the Multimedia Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (MDeC), was held at the Royale Chulan Hotel in Kuala Lumpur recently.

The three-day conference featured local and international luminaries of the creative industry who gave talks as well as conduct technical masterclasses for local multimedia professionals. This culminated in the MSC Malaysia Kre8tif! Industry Awards held on the final night which saw proud Limkokwing students walking off the stage clutching two awards won under the Games (Student) category for Best Visuals and a Special Mention for their entries titled ‘Smog Busters’ and ‘Totem Mania’ respectively.

The Kre8tif! Industry Awards aim to recognize the excellence of local professionals for their contribution to the creative industry in the areas of digital arts, VFX, games and emerging idea.

Smog Busters
The setting for ‘Smog Busters’ takes place in Kuala Lumpur in the not too distant future of the year 2015. Kuala Lumpur plunges into darkness when it’s suddenly engulfed by a wave of thick haze, forcing an elite force to be formed to help combat the crisis. The elite force is made up of none other than our very own Polis Diraja Malaysia, as well as scientists of the ‘Anti-Haze Project’ who are collectively known as the ‘Smog Busters.’

Players will learn scientific facts such as the process of purifying the ozone of air pollutants (smog) after playing the game.

Totem Mania
Totem Mania is a 2D game created using XNA C# for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms. Inspired by such classic hits as Super Mario, Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers and Little Big Planet, Totem Mania revolves around the theme of friendship and requires two players to work together to overcome the obstacles they will face in the game. Totem Mania consists of three unique levels where players will venture from the Caves in the Amazon, to the Paddy Fields in Malaysia and the Desert in the Grand Canyon. As players progress through the levels, the difficulty increases in terms of coordination between players (e.g. the timing of jumps), puzzles and obstacles they will encounter.
