There will be plenty of iPhones seen at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology soon.
Aside from functioning as a communication device, the popular Apple product will be a conduit for online notices and class updates, as well as a tool for its students to download or view course notes.
Datuk Dr Jayles Yeoh, Limkokwing vice-president of international development, said the iPhone programme is a milestone in the advancement of the university’s course structure.
The curriculum will be restructured to enable the students to also develop mobile applications and services for the device.
“We encourage our students to switch to the iPhone, but it is not compulsory,” Yeoh said.
This programme is the result of a partnership between Maxis Bhd, which is the distributor for the iPhone in the country, and Limkokwing.
The telco will supply the iPhone 3GS to the university’s faculty members and students at a subsidised rate, starting next month.
Maxis will be bundling the device with several service packages that will feature free phone calls, MMSes and SMSes between the subscribers at Limkokwing, and more.
“We are also working to introduce prepaid and postpaid plans for the staff and students, and will even introduce a leasing scheme to lower the take-up cost,” said Fitri Abdullah, Maxis’ vice-president and head of enterprise and carrier business.
For added convenience, there will be a Maxis centre set up on the campus to provide onsite customer service.
