Limkokwing University-Spice Global Group MoU to foster academic collaboration

Limkokwing University of Creative technology and the Daawati Modi Academy today signed a MoU signaling a “new era” of academic and cultural exchanges between both institutions.

Dayawati Modi Academy is a component of the well-known Spice Global Group, which is one of India’s leading conglomerates estimated to be worth over USS 2 billion. Its niche is in cutting-edge technologies such as Mobile Phones, Mobile Retailing, Mobile VAS, IT integration, Retail Real Estate and Education.

Named by Forbes magazine as one of the world’s richest men, Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Modi is the Chairman of the Spice Global Group based in Singapore.

Dr. Bhupendra Kumar Modi signed the MoU on behalf of his Group, while Vice President Dato’ Fajura Juffa bte Mustapa Kamal represented Limkokwing University.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by the University Founder President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing and Mr. Prakash Nanani, President of the Spice Global Group.

The collaboration came about following a series of high profile visits early this year to Limkokwing University by Dr. Modi and Mr. Nanani respectively.

Speaking vefore the signing, Dr. Modi said he was attracted by philosophy of Limkokwing Toward the teaching of digital technology, which he found to be highly advanced.

“I was immediately drawn to the philosophy which this University has and what this University is doing is taking technological and management jobs and turning it into a totally new digital era.”

He Added, “Mu first visit to this university immediately told me that this is the right place to start something new. I find this University is a University with a purpose. This University is focusing on youths with potential and what they can become. This is a very student-focused University. It is not about the university, it is all about the students.”

The MoU covers four specific areas, namely:

  • Special programmes: Joint-award programmes of teaching, research and conferences between the two that may be undertaken at either campus.
  • Research degrees: Placement and support for students of Masters programmes to undertake a period of research at the partner campus.
  • Tutor exchanges: Exchange of academic staff and to share expertise and knowledge between both universities.
  • Exchange programme: Evaluate and recognize the time and study period of the student that will allow the student who has received a grant and fulfills the entrance level to become a fully accepted student of the institutions enjoying same rights and privileges.

Dr. Modi was of the opinion that today’s youth are going to change the world tomorrow through their potential and enthusiasm.

“The youths are going to change the world and this is a very exciting thing, and exciting time, and exciting era, an era that the youths are going beyond religion, beyond nationalities, to create a global community, a global family which is much stronger than any other community.”

Limkokwing will focus on six industry-drive programmes:

These courses are designed to boost the students’ changes of securing high income careers when they graduate as digital professionals.

According to Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, the University will introduce the latest digital technology and creativity programmes in India and then move on to post-graduate and PhD programmes later on.

Speaking to the Media, he said that Limkokwing will set up a campus in New Delhi and possibly explore other areas in the Indian sub-continent.

“Picking up from Dr. Modi has said, I get the feeling that we are starting a new chapter. The university will draw students from all over the world and, therefore, should logically be more successful as well. I have no doubt that by working with Dr. Modi, we will be able to develop a strong campus in New Delhi, and move to other places in India.”

The President was referring to the Limkokwing global family through its campuses spread across Asia, Africa and Europe, and now by expanding into the Indian subcontinent, the University is able to welcome students from this region to spend a semester to acquire world-class global education at its international campuses, especially in London, which provides a globalized environment.

A global University, Limkokwing has twelve campuses in eight countries and with the signing of the MoU with the Spice Global Group; the door is open to Limkokwing University to widen its global presence in India and beyond.
