Young people from over 93 member countries of the World Youth Assembly will soon have access to world-class training programmes through collaboration with Limkokwing University.

The President of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY), Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, on a recent visit - invited the University to collaborate to develop the World Youth Institute (WYI) into a world-class training centre for youths from all over the globe, including Malaysia.

Datuk Seri Mohd Ali is also currently the Chairman of the Board of Directors of WYI- which is under the auspices of WAY. WYI focuses on capacity building through education, training and development programmes and undertakes regional and international level seminars, conferences and youth dialogues.

Best of Limkokwing for WYI: The Chairman, who is also the Chief Minister of Melaka, wants to implement Limkokwing University’s innovative approach to empowering youths with 21st century knowledge, skills and thinking processes to be drivers of the economy.

In extending the invitation to the University President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali - who is also the Chief Minister of Melaka - said Limkokwing has the expertise and resources to provide vital human capital building and skills empowerment to the Melaka-based WYI headquarters.

He said joining forces will combine their resources to develop highly flexible training strategies that evolve around different requirements such as in leadership skills, digital mastery or better employment opportunities.

The collaboration - which will bring together the 120 youth organizations/councils under the WAY umbrella - is also expected to pave the way for a university-youth consortium that will organize forums and youth conventions.

One of the first major events that will be organized by the Consortium this year will be the International Youth Convention on Creativity and Innovation.

About WAY

WAY - a coordinating body of national youth organizations - was founded in 1949. It works with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations in cooperation with UNAIDS, UNEP, ILO UNESCO, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO to promote youth in employment, environment, human rights, democracy, population, health, drugs, community development and leadership training. 

WYI - which is under the auspices of WAY - focuses on capacity building through education, training and development programmes besides fostering connections and enhancing relationships between youths across the globe.

To-date, WYI has conducted short courses in leadership, entrepreneurship and tourism management. It also organizes short English courses for young employees of government-linked companies and NGOs.
