Limkokwing University’s creative “neurons” excite UK audience

Limkokwing University London brought the curtains down on another exciting year with ‘Neuron of Innovation’—the year-end exhibition held by the university’s UK outpost that featured the works of its current students, graduates and alumni.

The name of the exhibition was inspired by “neurons”—the cells that form the networks in the human nervous system and transmits the signals that allow each of us to function accordingly. This typifies the Limkokwing family—with students from 165 countries and spread across Asia, Africa and Europe, all working in unity as one. The guests witnessed for themselves how the students worked for a common goal: to create, innovate and regenerate.

All the guests were given a warm welcome, where they were led by student ambassadors to the media room which showcased the works from the faculties of Business Management & Globalization (FBMG); Communication, Media & Broadcasting (FCMB); Design Innovation (FDI) and Information & Communication Technology (FICT).

In total, 23 short videos featuring new media, multimedia, animation and software development projects and 12 artworks featuring product and advertising designs were on display. Some of the highlights include Reda Cherbane from Algeria and his concept design of a smartphone called the ‘iFold’. His concept was based on Apple’s design philosophy and innovative use of technology, effectively combining an iPhone and an iPad into one device. Another eye-catching display was by Donald Angus Maclean from South Africa who developed a computer operating system that corresponded to the user’s career, portraying designs using the careers of a musician and mechanic as examples.

The guests then moved ahead to the main hall that held the star attraction: the works from students and alumni from Limkokwing’s 11 campuses around the world. One of the guests, President of China Re-unification Society in the UK and Hon. Guest Professor of Nanjing University, Dr. Chan Cheng, expressed his delight: “The exhibition was resourceful. I enjoyed watching each and every masterpiece by the students and I must say, Limkokwing University has some great talents.”

The guests were also treated to a talk by professional business consultant, Nick Ng, who gave tips and advice to the guests on starting their own business and the importance of goal-setting in personal development.

Each of the 30 graduating students were presented with a token of love and remembrance from the university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Cedric Bell on behalf of the Founder & President of the university, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing.

The evening ended with rousing applause from the guests, courtesy of a fashion show that featured 10 stunning garments designed by the university’s alumni, flown in from its Cyberjaya campus. The garments were paraded by 10 models from 9 countries, adding a distinct cosmopolitan flavour to the mix and at the same time, highlighting the university’s inspired global approach to education. The guests were also entertained by a couple of music performances from students: Pablo Xcobani of Nigeria had the audience jive to tunes of his very own compositions while Diwash Bikram Nembang from Nepal also impressed with his array of exotic sounds.

The exhibition will be open to the public until January of next year and registration for London’s next intake will commence on 27th February 2012.
