Limkokwing students did the University proud by bagging the Best of Show Award in the 30-hour Code-A-Thon 2009 competition.

The competition was held in Singapore in conjunction with Singapore Youth Olympic Games’ “Digital Media” Marquee Event from 10 to 11 July 2009 and was organized by Nanyang Polytechnic.

Code-a-Thon 2009 was a computer game development competition where participating teams were given 30 hours to develop their games. Each team was allowed a maximum of 5 members.

Participants were expected to produce a game demo, based on the theme provided which was based on Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect using C/C++, C# or Java. Developers had to stay and develop their games on-site within 30 hours.

The event was launched by Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman, the Parliamentary Secretary of Singapore Ministry of National Development.

More than ten Singaporeans and two other overseas teams from Malaysia and China took part in the competition. Limkokwing was the sole representative from Malaysia.

Five students from the Game Department, Limkokwing University Faculty of Multimedia Creativity, had formed a group to take their challenge to the battle.

The five contenders were Bryan Ong, Plentiful Lee, Joseph Gan, Adrian Khor and Umar Mochtar.  They were accompanied and mentored by their lecturers, Kevin Tan and Bazil Akmal.

Other teams included five from Temasik Polytechnic and two from China.

Known for their creativity and innovative ways in learning and thinking, the contestants from Limkokwing University managed to prove their mettle by winning the Best of Show award.

This award was designed for the team that displayed the most innovative, impressive and enjoyable demo of the highest quality.

Congratulations to the Limkokwing team. The University hopes to see more participation from aspiring designers in the future.
