Limkokwing’s student designs T-shirt for Rainforest World Music Festival

An on-going collaboration, which started three years back between Limkokwing Borneo and Sarawak Tourism Board once again, sees Limkokwing designing the official T-shirt for this year’s 12th annual Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF).

According to Benedict Jimbau, Chairman of the Rainforest World Music Festival, this collaboration has continued for the third year running and he is happy to note that Limkokwing has played a very important part in this aspect of this world-renowned festival.

“We at Sarawak Tourism Board are extremely happy and proud to be associated with Limkokwing and this partnership has benefited both the students of Limkokwing and Sarawak Tourism Board,” he said. “We look forward to continue working with Limkokwing in many other areas in the near future.”

Siaw Quan Cheng, who is pursuing the Anglia Ruskin University degree programme in Graphic Design at Limkokwing Borneo, designed the official T-shirt based on the brief given by STB, which was to reflect the celebration of the festival itself.

This partnership is based on Limkokwing’s “Industry-within-the-University” (Indusity) concept that witnesses students partaking in industrial projects.

The selected T-shirt design combines elements of Borneo and Sarawak as one with culture, heritage and music with the main theme revolving around rich biodiversity and rainforest environment in the state.

“I used elements reflecting the spirit of the rainforest to capture the overall theme of the festival and produced bold designs to ensure clarity which in turn will complement this annual event,” explained Siaw.

“Good designs can significantly add value to products, lead to better sales and enable the exploitation of new markets and the consolidation of existing ones,” said Petrus Alfred Paul, a Graphic Design lecturer who plays a major role in the expansion of this Indusity project.

Petrus also revealed that Indusity concept is firmly entrenched in the Limkokwing philosophy as the institution is driven towards producing graduates who meet industry needs.

“Raw talent exists in all our students. This is just a fraction of what we can do to showcase their promising works to the international audience,” he adds when explaining the opportunity Indusity projects create for students.

“As a creative institute, we are always getting involved in “Indusity” programmes and the industry oriented environment at our campus proves to be a winning formula. This ultimately benefits the students before they graduate,” explained Limkokwing Assistant Director Nikki Lugun.

“It is our Founder/President Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lim Kok Wing’s vision of empowering a new generation of global graduates by harnessing the energy and unlocking their hidden creativity.”

This is the third time that Limkokwing’s designs were chosen for the Rainforest World Music Festival. Limkokwing also designed the official T-shirt for the annual Miri International Jazz Festival.

The official t-shirt will be worn by organizers, performers, media and volunteers throughout the 3 day Festival from July 10 – 12. It will also be on sale at the Sarawak Tourism Board’s merchandise stall.

Limkokwing will also be setting up a booth at the Festival where talented Limkokwing students and staff will be on hand to show their creative prowess with body art, caricatures, workshops and face painting.
