As part of efforts to advance higher learning education in Palestine, Limkokwing University of Technology (LUCT) have joined hands with the Palestinian embassy in Malaysia to open a training centre that involves higher learning programmes in the Middle Eastern country.

The Univeristy’s President, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lim Kok Wing, said that initially they will be training ten lecturers from Palestine starting next month to prepare them for educating their own people early next year.

“We offer information technology and communication, along with graphic designing. Other programmes will follow depending on the necessity,” he said after receiving the Distinguished World Citizen of Peace and Humanity Award from the Palestine Embassy, presented by the ambassador, H.E. Abdel Aziz Aboughosh, in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Abdel Aziz, in his speech, stated that Lim was selected based on his contribution in promoting world peace, especially in his country, which includes his effort to educate LUCT students from 140 countries.

“Under his guidance, LUCT also circulated peace messages throughout Malaysia with regards to the suffering of the Palestinian and the Middle East conflict through ’Plight of the Palestinians, A people Denied A Homeland” videos, while also initiating a fund collection for Gaza earlier this year,” he stated.

Explaining about the award that he received, Lim said that his contributions over more than 20 years were small compared to the suffering of the Palestinians.

“This is the most distinguished award I have ever received, made significant because it was presented by an individual who has been through so many difficulties during his time in refugee camps all because he was fighting for the rights of his country. Our way of helping world peace has included conducting charity concerts and producing the ‘Heal the World’ album through the students of LUCT. Other than circulating it around LUCT campuses in Asia, Africa and Europe, we also broadcasted them through the Internet,” he concluded.
