Mobile phone operator Maxis Bhd is testing new devices and will roll them out in the Malaysian market when they are ready.

“We will introduce the devices when we are comfortable that we can provide the end-to-end management in terms of technical help and sales when we roll them out,” said vice-president and head of enterprise and carrier business Mohamed Fitri Abdullah in Kuala Lumpur.

Fitri was asked if there were plans to bring new innovative devices such as the Android smartphone into the market this year.

Based on tradition, he said Maxis has always been a pioneer in introducing new mobile devices to the market.

Maxis launched the Apple iPhone smartphone in the local market in July 2009 which received a good response from the public and it was also the first to introduce the BlackBerry in Malaysia.

Yesterday, the telecommunication group signed a partnership agreement with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology to provide discounted iPhone 3Gs with special packages to its students.

This is in line with the university’s aim to grow mobile delivery and integrate mobile learning into university curriculum where students are able to access time table, exams results and lecture notes via the iPhone.

Maxis will also set up an outlet within the university’s compound to cater to the need of almost 10,000 students at the university.
