It was a blend of culture, creativity and glamour as Limkokwing graduates brought imagination and energy to Jaya One’s premise. The Fashion and Hair Design Academy students showcased their garments and hairstyles in a lively display of ingenious designs accompanied with lively performances by our very own talented singers which kept the audience engaged throughout the event.
The much anticipated third installment of the ever enthralling “Fashion Creativity in Motion” came to a cumulative start as the global showcase of talent ranging from arts and design, to song and dance kept the crowd entertained. With designs crafted to perfection and detailed to fit the influences of the world, Limkokwing’s fashion graduates of 2010 produced collections centered on worldly cultures and the vibrancy they exude.
The talented quartet consisting of Ayu, Ronnie, Lisa and Kugan performing Lady Gaga’s smash hit ‘Telephone’ to the delight of the crowd.
The 26 designers chosen for their best works showcased their garments which included a culmination of designs, cuts and craftsmanship with influences from various cultures which inspired the designers to create their intricate garments.
Kang So Na a graduate from Korea used the Junihitoe 12 layer technique from ancient Japan and inspired by the famous kimono. Her collection which included a cascading overcoat, had elements of denim incorporated within its design with the designer citing the material she used as being trendy, modern and young spirited with a mixture of chiffon and organza further enhancing the design.
‘My experience and time at Limkokwing has been so rewarding in all aspects. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my time her than with this fashion show which enabled us to show what we are capable of.’
A frilly creation inspired by the Lotus Temple designed by Indonesian student designer Fernika Thomas and modelled by a student model from Syria.
The designs consisted of a plethora of mixes and blends of materials with influences from the great Ming Dynasty in China, to the hill-dwelling ethnic Dayaks in Borneo to the Quashghai people of Iran all the way down to the ancient Egyptians to name but a few.
‘This fashion show is a cultural blend of design and creativity and gives students a feel of the fashion industry and what it takes to run a show. With this fashion show we intend to showcase the student’s inspirational ideas and their months of hard work,’ said Fashion and Retail Design senior lecturer Abdul Wahid.
The show featured Limkokwing’s very own international student models hailing from over 50 countries with Miss World Malaysia 2009 Miss Thanuja Ananthan making a special guest appearance on the runway as the girls sashayed down the runway donning the students creations.
Desy Sagita a fashion and retail design graduate from Indonesia whose collection was inspired by the Dayak People, showcased garments with elaborate embroidery patterns which depicted the unique cultures expert crafting techniques.
Singing sensation Jonah Sithole entertains the crowd with his rendition of Taio Cruz’s ‘Break your heart’.
‘The fashion show was a great success and I feel so privileged to have had my garments be part of it. I wanted my collection to be associated with power, elegance, formality and mystery and I feel that I accomplished that.’
Featured along with the ethnic designs was the Limkokwing Black collection, a series of gowns known for their impeccable tailoring and detail. The collection exhibited the talented works of Limkokwing’s alumni featuring garments set to dazzle with their regal elegance and ethereal elements.
The Hair Design Academy students also joined the night’s events as their models strut down the catwalk in hairstyles focused on fabulous Glam Rock creations.
One hair raising design by Shabana a student from India, left the crowd in awe of the towering Mohawk which included electric blue extensions and stood at least 2 feet above the models head.

‘My design was part of the Glam Rock theme we came up with as students,’ said Shabana. ‘I wanted to create a show stopping piece and I think I did just that!’
The hairstyles were the epitome of the rock lifestyle and all it encompasses with models dressed all in black allowing the hairstyles to speak for themselves.
‘This being the first time our hair design students have had a show outside of the University, we feel that they did an excellent job in coming up with their designs. We are very proud of what they have accomplished here today and their outrageous designs illustrate the hard work they put into their runway show,’ said Airene Wong, Associate Head of the International Lifestyle Academy.
The night’s musical performances by Ronnie, Ayu, Jonah, Aaron and Farhan belted out self-composed tunes as well as well-known tracks kept the crowd entertained.
With students coming from 150 colorful nations worldwide, where creativity is celebrated everyday, the occasion unveiled a representation of the global blend of culture and imagination found only at Limkokwing University.
