Propelled by her love for music and creating new and diverse ways to inspire all those around her, SaDingding is a force to be reckoned with. Her much awaited arrival to Limkokwing University was felt by everyone present as drones of students gathered around the University hammerhead.
Greeted by staff and students, the revolutionary artist made her way to smiling fans as she greeted them and complimented the University’s diverse culture of students.
The singer, songwriter and choreographer who is in Malaysia for a variety of concerts to promote her second album Harmony, is considered as an icon and pioneer for her unique singing style which represents modern China in every sense. Her rhythmic blend of sounds from various Asian regions, include influences from Tibet and Mongolia with a touch of Western electronica, classical and soul.
The artist who cites music as her way of communicating to her fans made her way around the University and was impressed by its magnificent structure.
‘I really like the building design and open model. It gives students a space to produce concepts and present ideas which are creative in all aspects of their studies as well as their lives. If I knew there was a university like this when I was younger I would have definitely loved to study here!’
SaDingding’s distinctive sound and voice have propelled her to the fore front of her revolutionary style. She is the first Chinese artist to sing in Sanskrit (a historical Indo-Aryan language and sacred language of Hinduism and Buddhism which she taught herself), Mandarin and Tibetan along with her very own self-created language which is an admirable feat in itself.
‘I like to exchange ideas with students because they always have the best inspiration. I miss my university life and felt that they were the best years of my life.’
SaDingding’s achievements have garnered a multitude of awards and honours. Amongst them she earned the prestigious BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards for the “Best Asian & Pacific artist” in 2008 and was the second Chinese Artist ever to perform at the Royal Albert Hall that same year. Her most celebrated award however was the Grammy Award nominee she received in 2008.
‘I would like to encourage all of you to never give up so easily and live your dream.’
Appointed as the international lifestyle design advisor by the University, SaDingding will pay regular visits to the various Limkokwing University campuses worldwide, sharing her valuable expertise with students from 150 nationalities and all of different cultural backgrounds.
