Limkokwing University of Creative Technology today assured the visiting Dean of
University Advance Office of Global Exchange Dr. Harold Oh from the prestigious
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) of working together to write a new
chapter of academic ties between both varsities.

Dr. Harold Oh, a Korean American, is the Dean of university advancement at
New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury. Most recently, Dr. Oh held
the Herchiel and Elizabeth Sims endowed chair in applied ethics and served as
associate professor of philosophy and religion at the University of Charleston,
United States of America.

New York Technical Institute (NYIT)

NYIT has a distinguished history that dates back to 1910. It provides career-
oriented professional education and supporting applications-oriented research.

The institute is a pioneer in introducing computers in the classroom in the 50s,
and was also the first to herald the advent of “teaching machines” for student
instructions in physics, electronics and mathematics.

3-D computer animation is another innovative area that NYIT is considered as a
pioneer, in fact, before Pixar and Lucasfilm, there was NYIT’s Computer Graphics
Lab (CGL).

The NYIT technology is widely utilized by people from Pixar Animation Studios,
Walt Disney Feature Animation, Dreamworks, Netscape and Silicon Graphics
among others in their film production.

NYIT has campuses in China, the Middle East and Canada and offers degree
programmes in architecture and designs, arts and sciences, education,
engineering and computing sciences.

Endorsing Limkokwing’s creativity

Dr. Harold Oh’s visit to Limkokwing University is groundbreaking as it enhances
NYIT’s recognition and endorsement of Limkokwing’s work in creative education
for over four decades within Malaysia and beyond.

His visit will also lay the groundwork for both institutes to strengthen academic
links, especially now that Limkokwing University is poised to make its presence
felt in America’s heartbeat, New York.

Youth, the future

Dr. Harold Oh has high regard for young people as the “future” of the world and
was excited about their potential that could be harnessed to empower mankind.

He was highly impressed by the level of creativity in the videos that he viewed
and expressed admiration for the quality of technological work done by students
at the Cyberjaya campus.

Guest of honour

Later in the evening, the Dean was the honorary guest-of-honour at the
university’s Creativity Fashion in Motion extravaganza staged by students and
alumni of Limkokwing at One Jaya Petaling Jaya.

Here he witnessed first-hand what Limkokwing University is all about – the only
university that celebrates creativity everyday and by everyone, from the students
to the president himself.

“I have never seen anything like this before. There is great variety and
it is unique, out-of-the-box. Yes the fashion show seems to stand out
for its different styles.”

Dr. Oh who was speaking at the end of the show said, “Limkokwing University is
very different, very international and I am very impressed.”

Celebrating creativity

This show of creativity has been an integral part of the teaching experience
at Limkokwing University where ideas are nurtured. Students are encouraged
to undertake and follow through assignments designed to build their skills,
creativity and confidence.

Limkokwing is a global university with twelve campuses spread across three
continents in Asia, Africa and Europe with over 30,000 students. The Cyberjaya
campus alone is home to 10,000 students coming from over 145 countries
worldwide.

It is this celebration of different cultures, races and nationalities under one roof
that makes Limkokwing unique, a facet that Dr. Oh observed that makes the
campus a mini UN.

By coming together, two of the world’s top innovative institutes of higher

education are ready to transform innovative knowledge and skill-sets into a new
and exciting frontier of development far into the realm of this century.
