The eight Master’s degree programmes by the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology offers something no other local university does; the opportunity to spend a semester or two in one of the university’s eight campuses worldwide. Limkokwing’s campuses are currently located in the United Kingdom, Botswana, Indonesia, China, Cambodia, Lesotho, Swaziland and of course its home campus in Kuala Lumpur.
“It’s part of our concept of globalised education,” explains Associate Professor Dr Jayles Yeoh, vice-president of International Development Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
“For example, our postgraduate students from the London campus are required to spend one semester in the Kuala Lumpur campus to experience the Eastern culture and economics so that their view of the world is not limited to Western views.”
He adds that having a more worldly view is important these days, especially in an increasingly globalised world. It would, in the end, give the student global employability – which is indeed priceless.
The programmes on offer are Master of Communication, MB in Communication & Public Relations, MA in International Contemporary Art & Design Practice, MBA in Finance & Banking, MBA in Human Resource Management, MBA in Leisure & Tourism Management, MBA in Multimedia Management and MBA in Sports Management.
The programmes are divided into three semesters, and delivered by industry practitioners. “For example, we may have Tan Sri Jins Samsuddin delivering one of our modules as a guest lecturer,” beams Dr Yeoh.
All postgraduate courses are taught at the Kuala Lumpur Campus (KLC) in the heart of the city to enable easy access for working professionals.
Besides the chance to experience the world with their quality postgraduate degrees, Limkokwing offers a networking opportunity unheard of anywhere else, with university partners in 70 countries and 25,000 students from 140 countries.
“We are perhaps the only university in the world to offer this kind of opportunity,” says Dr Yeoh, adding that the university prefers degree holders with a few years of work experience to pursue the postgraduate courses.
To encourage this, the fees are tagged at the market rate, despite the many benefits that outweigh other institutes of higher learning. There are also scholarships up to 30 per cent of the tuition fee on offer for qualified students.
The university has come a long way since its inception more than 15 years ago. It was the first college to be upgraded to university-college status in the country, and the first university-college to be upgraded to university status. Currently, Limkokwing is awaiting approval for two PhD programmes as it continues to break new ground in education.
Indeed, the study programmes at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology are unsurpassable – one stands out as a student of quality, and ultimately as a professional of caliber – making its graduates masters of their own universe.
