The Limkokwing University of Technology recently held a pre-launch event for its upcoming dance competition, the MAYA Inter-University Dance Charity Competition by the Indian Cultural Club.
Some 300 students and guests from 25 countries filled the Limkokwing One World Club in Kuala Lumpur to learn more about the hype behind the competition as well as experience first-hand the Indian performing arts.
The event was all about glitz and glamour, with well-known Tamil entertainers and celebrities such as Dr Burn, Mista K, Gold Kartz and the K-Town Clan making their presence felt through moving speeches.
A further treat to the organisers was when the boutique founder Shaila Nair donated RM12,000 worth of clothing for the competition.
Special dance performances by Barathanjali Dance School and the Limkokwing International Dance Academy and a rhythmic set by South Indian percussion group, Urmi Mellam entertained the crowd, letting the international students get a feel of the Indian performing arts.
A range of modified cars from the Bambush Motorsport group were lined-up outside the club.
The Indian Cultural Group will bolster efforts to ensure the contest in August exceeds the norm of a normal dance competition, by embedding fashion, music, theatre, together with the automobile and cultural exhibitions.
