It was spell-binding magic from start to finish when Limkokwing staged its graduates’ fashion show, dazzling invited guests, shoppers and trend-setters.
The magical spell was cast by award-winning student designers and 21 graduating students turned designers. Adding glamour and panache to the glittering occasion were student musicians, make-up artistes and hair stylists from the university’s Sound and Music Design Academy and International Lifestyle Design Academy.
Aptly entitled Magic, the extravaganza featured the Prize Collection and London Collection, in which students from Botswana, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius and the UK took part. The ambience was thus multicultural and international, in keeping with the university’s attributes.
Two winners of Botswana contest
Creations by award-winners Anthony Sefemo from Botswana and fellow student Opelo Lesaka took centre stage. Anthony was the winner of the recent Urban Cosmopolitan Couture organised by the Botswana Confederation of Commerce, Industry and Manpower, bagging RM1 million worth of prizes. Opelo was placed third in the competition.
Tan Siok Hoon from Kuching, the winning designer of the Paco Rabanne Black XS photo shoot, wowed the audience with her stunning clothes in the Prize Collection. The Sarawakian made a name for herself after leaving the corporate world to study fashion design at Limkokwing.
Also impressed by the performance were special guests and senior executives from industry partners L’Oreal Professional, Shu Uemura, Lewre, Bonita and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
There was no shortage of pretty faces in the campus as half of the 40 models led by Amber Chia and Gloria Ting were students. On hand to support their alma mater were pop princess Sazzy Falak and actress Maya Karin, both Limkokwing graduates.
Creative sparks were felt in a wide spectrum of student activities, ranging from multimedia and event management to exhibition design and music composition.
An annual event, the Limkokwing Graduation Fashion Show was held at the newly-opened shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur, The Pavilion, on 12 July. By all accounts, it was a night to remember.
