Limkokwing University in Botswana has given reigning Miss Botswana, who is also its student, Sumaiyah Marope a sponsorship worth P40 000 as part of the universities corporate social responsibility.
In addition to this amount, the university has also spearheaded a presentation that highlights all the charity events that Sumaiyah has carried out during her reign, which is hoped to be used to position her well at the next Miss World pageant.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Public Relations Manager, Mercy Thebe said the university was proud to be a centre that produces gems such as Sumaiyah.
She further stated that Limkokwing was not only concerned with achievements centred on learning, but also aimed to also encourage their students to engage in activities that serve as the platforms to celebrate their talents.
For her part, Sumaiyah thanked all those that played a vital role in preparing her for the pageant and said she now leaves with confidence that she will do her school and country proud.
She leaves for South Africa tomorrow, where the preparations for the pageant will commence.
Sumaiyah faces competition from representatives from all corners of the world.
The beauty pageant will take place on December 12, 2009 at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg.BOPA
