Taib: Sarawak needs more talented technologists

Kuching: Sarawak needs more young, creative and innovative technologists to be the future leaders of society beyond 2020.

Chief Minister, Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud, stated this at the opening of the Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology Sarawak Campus at Jalan Nanas here yesterday.

In a globalised world, creativity and ability based on ingenuity would be the key indicators of the knowledge society of the future, he said, adding that he would like to see continuous effort to produce more technology creative and innovative young Sarawakians to prepare them for the future.

He stressed that creative education was the best gift that could be given to the young people today who would make the bulk of our society beyond 2020.

The Chief Minister also said it was important to get the children as early as possible to adapt to some a venue of creativity in their lives, besides the pursuit of conventional education.

“I think it is very important to have an education that preserve that little spark of ingenuity in us.

“Tan Sri (Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lim Kok Wing), I hope your institute can intensify this effort,” he said.

Taib also praised Tan Sri Lim for his contribution to the education world.

At the function, Taib also officially launched Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology website and witnessed the exchange of Memorandum of Understanding between Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology and British Association of Tourism & Hospitality Executives Ltd.

Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology Sarawak which has more than 500 students from 10 countries is part of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology worldwide that has a global network of 12 campuses in 7 countries.

Professor Dato’ Ar Parid Wardi, Chief Executive Officer, Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology and Senator Dato Sri Empiang Jabu, Chair, Governing Council, Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology also spoke.

Also present were Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu anak Numpang, and Taib’s daughter, Hanifah H. Taib Alsree.
