How long can a winning streak last? In the case of Limkokwing University it seemingly never ends.
Its latest prize came from its Faculty of Design Innovation when four of its students grabbed the coveted Kancil Student Award.
Two of them - Hoang Ngoc Mai Anh and Iwan Jonathan Fang – won the Gold Awards while two others - Yoki Christianto and Yohanes Setiawan Hartanto’s – captured the Bronze Awards.
The Kancil Awards are acknowledged as Malaysia’s largest, most prestigious advertising awards competition. The active participation of the industry’s creative leadership represented by creative heads shows the Awards vital importance here in Malaysia and at international creative events.
This year’s competition based it’s theme on raising international awareness for the 20th Anniversary of The Convention on the Right of the Child (CRC) and was aptly named ‘A Radical Change’.
Hoang Ngoc Mai Anh and Iwan Jonathan Fang won the top award for their captivating and thought provoking design which was based on their concept entitled ‘Bricks’. Their innovative design brought to light the plight that thousands of child labourers between the ages of 5 and 14 years old engaged in the brick laying industry have to endure.
The team said they wanted those who lifted up the bricks to read our message, to experience for themselves what these children have to face everyday at work in order to get a decent meal. The way people interact with the bricks will make them imagine and be aware of the message they want to deliver.
Bronze winners Yoki Christianto and Yohanes Setiawan Hartanto’s design, was based on the concept entitled ‘Don’t Box them Up-Free ‘Em’ consisted of various illustrative cut-outs depicting children enjoying daily fun activities.
‘Our lecturer Mr Ken Goh helped us a lot during this design process. It was a great learning experience and we are very proud of our final product,’ said Yoki Christiano.
The University’s endless pursuit of nurturing students to achieve the best in various educational fields has enabled them to achieve outstanding results which have garnered the students a numerous amount of awards.
Limkokwing students have swept the gold awards over the years and have shown endless creativity in their skills and designs. In 2005 and 2004, Limkokwing students captured the Best of the Best Student Award. In 2003 they once again proved to be the best when they nabbed seven gold awards, besides five other prizes and in 2002, they won two silver and one bronze award.
Other recent achievements by the University’s students have been through the Lamborghini Paint My Ride contest where our students won the first and second prize, 2nd runner-up of the Mercedes Benz STYLO Emerging Designers competition and the Silver Award for Best Hip Hop song at the VIMA Awards.
