KUCHING: While our nation prepares to celebrate its 53rd independence day, the 1Malaysia Merdeka spirit is already in the air at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology as the largest indoor effigy of the 1Malaysia logo stands proudly on its campus.

The structure, situated at the entrance of the Plaza, which was erected to commemorate the launching of the historic Malaysia: Innovation Convention last month by the Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, also serves as a symbol of strength in unity and solidarity among Malaysians.

The construction evidently showcases the university’s support for the national concept as well as works as a platform to encourage and maintain the multicultural and multiracial ties amongst both the Malaysian and international staff and student body of the university.

In fact, a few international students said that when their local university counterparts explained that the national campaign was built on the foundations of the Federal Constitution, the Rukun Negara, Vision 2020 and various government policies and is founded on the percepts of unity in diversity, inclusiveness, social justice and moral and inspirational values, they felt that this was a concept that was already present at the university even before the launching of the 1Malaysia campaign.

The construction of this towering structure is also significant to Limkokwing’s constant support for government initiated projects and campaigns, as can be seen through the active participation in various other projects such as the ‘Tak Nak’ campaign, the ‘Rakan Muda- Yakin Boleh!’ campaign. The university has Towering 1Malaysia structure, a symbol of unity at Limkokwing University also, on its own initiative, pledged itself to other international campaigns which include the ‘Plight of the Palestinians’ and ‘Bosnia- Beyond Words, Beyond Tears’.

The support shown for these government initiated projects goes hand in hand with the university’s stand on building a sustainable ecosystem between both the government and the private sector, as there has to be a relationship of mutual cooperation between the two sectors before the nation can successfully grow and thrive in harmony.

The 1Malaysia structure represents a hallmark milestone in driving home the message of creativity and innovation into the hearts of all Malaysians as well as all the international members of the community.

It also reminds us all that essentially it is unity that helped build our nation 53 years ago, and unity will continue to bring our nation to greater heights in the years to come.
