Salutations

It is a privilege to have been chosen to represent my fellow students on this historic occasion. I am humbled to speak before so many of you, especially our beloved Prime Minster at the official opening of the Limkokwing University in Maseru.

From the beginning, my experience here has been mind blowing. I know I can speak on behalf of all of us when I say that before I came to Limkokwing I felt idle, searching for something to do with my life that would allow me to achieve greater things, and engage my mind. The arrival of the University couldn’t be more timely, since I’ve begun my classes here I feel calm, whole, and completely in my element.

I look forward to each day with yearning, thirst and curiosity, knowing I am going to see and learn something new that will not only satisfy my intellect but spirit. I am truly happy to be here. I feel at home with my new Limkokwing family and have been fortunate enough to meet and develop friendships with the most phenomenal people. They are creative people just like me and push me to grow and get better each and everyday, teaching me that what’s most important is how we use our knowledge and skills to help our community and contribute to others. After all, no man lives alone and there is more impact when work is done as a combined effort instead of by individuals.

At Limkokwing, I have access to all the resources I need to accomplish my dreams and with these doors open, I will make my mark in the world! We even use the latest technology used in London and New York! We will carry the Limkokwing name with us in all that we do for the rest of our lives, in our hearts.

Limkokwing has really shown me that there is no such thing as “impossible”, and the only limits we see are those set by ourselves. We are taught to be winners, and the only way to make things happen is through dedication, passion, and creative thinking.

Honorable Minister (Education), during your visit here in August you told us to use this opportunity to the best of our capabilities and reminded us how lucky we were to study at Limkokwing. Well, I must agree with you and say YES, we are lucky and we will never forget the value of this experience. Everyday, when we come to this campus we are reminded of how generous our government are, especially to be in the first group of us students that mark history. This is a truly huge turn in the history of this country and simply proves how Lesotho and Basotho are moving forward towards becoming a knowledge society.

This almost doesn’t feel real to me, it feels like a dream. Never in my life could I have dreamt that I would be here before the Prime Minister, his cabinet ministers, members of senate, ambassadors and leaders of the industry, and on top of that, doing it on television!

We the students have been empowered to be the best at everything we do and will never settle for second best. We are excited about what the future holds and are ready to take ownership of our lives, with our own big visions to be pioneers, and forces to be reckoned with. Honorable Prime Minister, I hope you wouldn’t be surprised to find one of us in your cabinet one day!

I must say thank you to Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr. Limkokwing, for being our inspiring role model, we keep you in mind in all that we do, and want to be just like you. We are going to work hard to succeed the way you knew we could and we are going to make you proud.

And finally, thank you, Honorable Prime Minister, thank you for your vision in bringing us the Limkokwing University in Lesotho and giving us all somewhere we are happy to call home. Thank you for blessing us with this incredible privilege, Lesotho better be ready for us!
