Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Lesotho is penetrating the districts of the Mountain Kingdom and making people understand how unconventional education could change mind-sets and catalyse the economic transformation of the country. Mapholaneg High School in the Mokhotlong district is located about 30km from the city centre and the most its students had heard about the University was that its corporate colour was black. 

Ms. Mercy Thebe the Corporate, Industry & Media Relations Regional Director and her team visited the school to share the many programmes and opportunities offered but primarily, to share the future that this ‘University of Innovation’ has envision for the country’s youth. 

The 200 high school seniors (Form 4 and Form 5) received career awareness counselling and were enlightened of future prospects for the local community and the nation at large. Mokhotlong is one of the districts that produces the highest quality diamonds coming out of the mining industry in the country and is also a tourist attraction famed for its snow-capped mountains. Both playing an imperative role in the economy of Lesotho.

The talk stressed on the importance of 21st century skills needed by Lesotho’s workforce to achieve national goals set in the nation’s Vision 2020. Students and teachers alike learned about the philosophy of the University and why it was time a new approach to education was needed in developing countries like Lesotho.

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Lesotho is one of 3 campuses that the Malaysian university headed by Tan Sri Limkokwing has set up in Africa. Over a thousand creative minds have graduated into the industry and have begun to move the country closer to its goals since opening its gates in 2008.
