By his own admission, newly-crowned Entrepreneur of the Year Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing has never worked.
"When you get to do something you enjoy, you will never have to work a day in your life. Normally, you develop a passion for something you like doing, similar to a hobby. In this case, your work becomes your hobby," he said.
That was also his advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, after he took home two awards at the annual Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2005 on Friday, the second being the Master Entrepreneur award.
Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop was the guest of honour, representing Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Abdul Razak. More than 450 people attended.
Lim has made a career out of his creativity, starting by creating advertising gems. Now with his Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, he teaches creativity to the young.
"This win is a pleasant surprise and I am glad to know that my efforts have been acknowledged and recognised," he said.
World award
"Nobody does his work expecting to win an award, but it feels good that what you do for a living is seen by others to be something well done."
Lim will represent Malaysia in Monte Carlo next year to compete with more than 35 entrepreneurs from around the globe for the 6th Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
In his speech read by Nor Mohamed, Najib said an entrepreneur is also a leader and he must assemble the best minds and talents to help him translate vision into reality.
