Transmitting Dreams to Reality

Jakarta-born Maharani Octoriana Putri was studying in a different tertiary institution in Kuala Lumpur before Limkokwing University caught her eye. Catalina Rembuyan speaks to this 26-year old to find out how her decision to shift to Limkokwing University has helped her in her line of work.
Maharani Octoriana Putri’s decision to join Limkokwing University of Creative Technology was not something she had in mind when she first stepped on Malaysian soil to further her studies. The Jakarta-born lass was pursuing her pre-University courses at a different private institution of learning in Malaysia before she met a friend of hers who was a student at Limkokwing University and was having the time of her life.
“I used to live with them and watch them do their assignments. The things that they did were fascinating to me and I became interested in the things they were studying at Limkokwing University,” she said.
As an associate producer, I have the responsibility of satisfying the needs and desires of the audience, as well as meeting the goals of the company and the interests of their stakeholders.
That was when she decided to enroll in the Diploma of Multimedia from the Multimedia, Advertising and Broadcasting Faculty at Limkokwing University. Today, she is currently an Associate Producer at one of the biggest television companies in Indonesia, P.T. Televisi Transformasi Indonesia, or TRANS TV.
“At TRANS TV, I am responsible for the smooth running of its many television shows, such as its sitcoms, music shows, and variety shows,” she explains.
In Indonesia, where the broadcasting industry is vibrant and competitive, Maharani is proud and happy to be working in a company that broadcasts to thirty-one locations across the country, with at least one coverage area on every island of the archipelago.
TRANS TV aims to become the best television broadcasting company in Indonesia, and by extension Southeast Asia, through the presentation of high quality broadcasts, a work ethic and positive results that can be valued highly by the company’s stakeholders, and to contribute to the betterment of society at large by encouraging the peace, prosperity and mental development of the community.
It is a set of principles that has worked well for the company, as TRANS TV is also a multiple award winner in the industry, having won the Best of the Best award for In-House Promo and two gold awards under Citra Pariwara 2008, as well as many awards during the previous year through different competitions such as the Panasonic Award, the Pertamina Press Award, the KPAI Award, and many more.
I learned a lot of new things by joining Limkokwing University. As a student of the university’s Multimedia, Advertising and Broadcasting programme, my current profession fully makes use of all the skills I have learned in university.
“As an associate producer, I have the responsibility of satisfying the needs and desires of the audience, as well as meeting the goals of the company and the interests of their stakeholders,” Maharani explained.

Since joining TRANS TV Maharani, who confessed that she has always wanted to join the television broadcasting industry as a child and is currently living her dream, has been promoted twice and has been involved in the broadcasting process of Indonesia’s best made-for-television comedy and variety show for two years.
Coming from a family of five with an entrepreneur father and a mother who works as a government employee, Maharani believes that her experience as a student in Limkokwing University has been helpful in contributing to her professional experience at TRANS TV.
I met many people from different countries and cultures, and most importantly, I learned to work as a team with them. That is a truly valuable experience.
“I learned a lot of new things by joining Limkokwing University. As a student of the university’s Multimedia, Advertising and Broadcasting programme, my current profession fully makes use of all the skills I have learned in university, which included a diverse field of knowledge such as designing, producing scripts, designing computer graphics, learning how to work with a camera, among others,” Maharani explained.
“One of my final assignments involved the production of a television commercial. It was when I learned how to master cameras, lighting, audio and editing, and I now meet these tasks every day at work.”
Maharani also added that apart from the subjects that she studied during class hours, Limkokwing University also offered a student life that she thoroughly enjoyed herself in and benefited much from. “I don’t think I will ever have enough words to explain all the experience I’ve gained as a student at Limkokwing University,” she said.
“I met many people from different countries and cultures, and most importantly, I learned to work as a team with them. That is a truly valuable experience.”
Maharani, whose optimistic perspective of life is revealed when she explains that her definition of success is anything that you achieve from hard work and that failure simply means that success is waiting ahead, has several words of advice that she would like to offer to future students who wish to undertake a similar line of work.
“Be brave and confident. That is the first step towards creativity,” she concluded.
