Vice President of the Republic of Botswana, Honourable Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi visited Limkokwing University's Cyberjaya campus on the 9th April during a five-day working visit to Malaysia.
Honourable Masisi and his entourage including the Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Mr. Eric Molale and senior government officials were welcome in true Limkokwing style by international students dressed in their traditional attire.
He witnessed a special presentation of three international awards received by Inspector-General of Police YDH Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid bin Abu Bakar on behalf of the Royal Malaysia Police. Limkokwing University had won the awards for developing an anti-cybercrime website for the police force.
Honourable Masisi then went on a campus tour of the University, visiting the many high technology facilities the University provides for students’ convenience and conducive learning environment. He was particularly impressed with the Branding Innovation Centre; a display gallery showcasing a wide range of local products that have been given a fresh look. It features a variety of brands, packaging designs and logos developed by students. Honourable Masisi commended the students’ creativity in creating the logos and repackaging, saying his country could benefit from such.
He also met with the Botswana student community in Malaysia over dinner at Westin Hotel, where he discussed Botswana students’ welfare in Malaysia, and the job creation strategies the country will put into effect to absorb graduates.
On an interview, Honourable Masisi said the presence of Limkokwing University in Botswana has brought a positive change into the country’s educational landscape, as industries are now seeing more creative and innovative graduates.
“Limkokwing University has changed the landscape of tertiary education in Botswana for the better,” he said.
He went on to say the University has provided Botswana youth with opportunities to acquire skills and capabilities that make them employable internationally, an opportunity they might otherwise not have had.
“Limkokwing University is a relevant institution in the sense that it provides students with an opportunity to acquire skills they might have never had.”
He also said the University’s focus on creativity is an integral part of future economic growth; as it is through creativity that new ideas and products are developed, hence the need to train the youth to think creatively.
“Creativity is a basis for growth. Creativity is a basis for acquiring new things, and creativity and youth must go together. Limkokwing presents all this in one” he said.
He concluded by saying the Botswana government will continue to enjoy the beneficial relationship they have with Limkokwing University, drawing from the University’s global expertise and networks in order to develop the nation’s youth.
