He lives his life in strict accordance with his principles. Trained at the Australian Army Staff College he is a disciplinarian, meticulous about health and fitness, keeping a strict personal regime, one which has coloured the manner in which he has conducted his life.

He applies the same commitment in his duty to his people. He is, essentially, a man of the people, illustrated by the fact that he goes beyond his expected role as a Prince of the Royal House of Kedah to look to the well-being of all who require care and assistance.

Humble in demeanour, practical in approach

Although his countenance conveys the firmness of his character it hides the softness of his heart, especially when it comes to the welfare of his people.

His concern for his people was most clearly demonstrated when the state of Kedah faced its darkest hours during the December 2004 Tsunami that paralysed many parts of the state. HRH Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Tunku Annuar travelled to every disaster hit zone to personally ensure assistance reached everyone affected and to console those badly hit by the calamity.

The lessons he learnt from that disaster prompted him to establish the Persatuan Bencana Alam Negeri Kedah – an association fully-geared to render assistance to state victims of natural disasters. He is especially known for his practical attitude to disaster relief whereby he provides essential items for people to rebuild their lives. He works with local authorities to rebuild homes destroyed by fire or floods.

A man of quiet dignity with a heart for charity

HRH Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Tunku Annuar may have been brought up amidst luxury and pageantry but he has also been taught to understand and appreciate the common folk for whom he bears great affection. He constantly visits them whether they reside in the busy cities or in the villages as part of his responsibility to look after their welfare. Farmer, fisherman or executive, HRH Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Tunku Annuar treats everyone equally.

A man of many talents HRH Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Tunku Annuar is also known for his passion for singing and together with his wife Toh Puan Bendahara Datin Seri Noor Suzanna Abdullah they have raised funds for charity by producing albums which they sold to offer the proceeds to provide for the unfortunate, the disabled and the suffering.

He is totally committed to charity and all year round he moots activities that raise millions to help the poor.

As a private individual HRH Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Tunku Annuar tries to find time to indulge his passion for fast cars and on the rare occasion he puts them to the test just to release any pent up stress of his daily routine. He enjoys driving and often prefers to drive himself everywhere he goes.

For his many endeavours to raise the quality of life of the people in Kedah the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology takes great pleasure in presenting this Honorary Doctorate of Social Development upon HRH Dato’ Seri Utama Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Alhaj Ibni Almarhum Sultan Badlishah this day, 20 July 2013.
