Limkokwing University students from the Faculty of Multimedia Creativity participated in a playtest session with GameFounders Asia in Bangsar South on 27 April.

GameFounders invited 21 students to conduct playtests on various game platforms which were still under development. This playtest sessions enables game designers to detect bugs and design improvement for market release.

The industry visit provided exposure for students to learn basic game designs and development. By witnessing game developers and providing feedback, students receive greater insights within the game industry.

“The Faculty believes that through this playtesting session, students can learn and understand what is needed to create games,” said Faculty of Multimedia Creativity Principal Lecturer Lim Gieng Fung. “We believe the experience will inspire students in their goals to become a game developer.”

Students learn to formulate the game industry’s business models, marketing techniques and promote their designs from experienced industry professionals.

Chase Payne, GameFounders Vice President of Publishing and Investing said that the previous decade has experienced tremendous growth for the gaming industry with greater job prospects.

“Events like these are good opportunities for students,” said Chase Payne, game Founders Vice President of Publishing & Investing. “It allows them to remove layers and be more involved with game creators.”

He explained further that these sessions provide greater awareness for the students about the game industry and their own talents.

“This experience is good for us and it inspires us to want to pursue a career in this field,” said Adel Salman Mohammad who is studying Game Design. “This will help to provide for our games and builds our confidence and understanding for the industry.”

“I learned a lot from this experience and how to use the feedback from testers to improve the game,” Brilliance Feldo, who is studying Games Art Development. “I do believe that this exposure will help me greatly as it will allow me to develop my contacts and insights in the game industry.”

Limkokwing University incorporates industry exposure in its learning approach. This method allows students to receive first-hand look at game development through the views of the developers.
