Students experienced the festive spirit of Holi at Limkokwing University’s Cyberjaya Campus in 28 May.
Holi is a celebration that marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year and is an ancient religious festival where revellers threw coloured powder or water at each other to symbolise renewed relationships, ending conflicts and removal of negative emotions.
The festival is also known as the “Festival of Colours” or “Festival of Sharing Love”. Holi is a two day festival that marks the end of winter and is widely celebrated in India and Nepal.
The celebration included cultural activities, game competition and music performances.
Students from various countries took part in the celebration to learn more about the significance of the festival.
“Coming from a Middle-Eastern country, it was exciting to be able to celebrate a festival from another culture for the first time,” said Bahrain student Sayed Mohamed Adnan who is studying for a Degree in Accounting Business.
“Holi is a colourful event and I am glad to be able to experience it here,” he said. “It was an opportunity for me to learn more about another culture.”
For Malaysian students, the celebration provided them with a chance to learn more about history and cultural traditions of the celebration.
“We get the chance to celebrate Holi in Malaysia and it was fun to bring a celebration that originated from India into Malaysia,” said Shalene d/o Namasivayam who is studying BA (Hons) in Fashion Design. “It was great for me because I could share my culture with students from other countries about Holi.”
Limkokwing University fosters unity and tolerance through multiculturalism from various countries and nationalities. The University has a multicultural learning environment that fosters networking opportunities and cultural awareness.
