On the set of Coffee, a story of a painter who has lost his imagination and is forced to choose between his needs and desires in order to retrieve back his creativeness.
AVIFF Art Film Festival Cannes 2014 kicked off last month, celebrating 7 days of visual art films. The exhibition which is within the famous Cannes Film Festival has since become one of the world’s favorite places of promoting contemporary art in the field of cinematography.
Amongst those celebrated during the week was Limkokwing University Bachelor of Arts Digital Film and Television student, Pouya Eshtehardi who proved himself quite a contemplative scriptwriter and filmmaker at the festival.
The 29 year old Iranian scooped Bronze for his Short film entitled Coffee; a story of a painter who has lost his imagination and is forced to choose between his needs and desires in order to retrieve back his creativeness.
Pouya, who was the film producer, scriptwriter, editor and photography director, produced the film for his 3rd semester Directing Workshop class and decided to upload it on the AVIFF Art Film Festival Cannes submission portal with hopes of receiving positive results.
“When I read the good news on the Festival’s official Facebook page, I was ecstatic at the outcome,” speaks of the Digital Film and Television student on his win which he dedicated to his wife.
“I was humbled by the Film Festival accepting my submission that alone was enough to encourage me’’, he added.
Pouya is inspired by some of films finest directors such as Russian Andrei Tarkovsky whose film career boasts of international film awards from the Venice Film and Cannes Film Festivals and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
“Such great directors taught me that artists like us exist because the world is not perfect, and we should therefore strive to make ourselves perfect in order for us to lead the world toward perfection.’’
The talented artist praises his lecturers and professors notably Mr. Ray Krill and Dr. Li for offering him wide knowledge through their innovative teaching.
He also believes his work would not have been the same had he not been adapted to diverse cultures that he found in the University.
“Each of my friends here at Limkokwing University are like windows to a new world. Whenever I feel like drafting a new script, I am never short of ideas especially when we have team work. This type of environment has been the most ideal space for creative people to keep up!’’ adds Pouya.
This is only the beginning for Pouya Eshtehardi. He is currently a finalist for Reel Show International, and online platform which provides the best film students and graduates from all over the world to showcase their films to an international audience. We are hoping for him to deliver yet another win.
