Fossil, the global lifestyle brand specialising in consumer fashion accessories, turns 30 this year and is celebrating it by launching their 30th Anniversary Tin-stallation exhibition at Pavilion KL.

Named after their father’s nickname, Tom Kartsotis started the company in 1984 based on his brother’s advice.  The company went on from strength to strength in just a short time, having its IPO in 1993. Fossil’s products, from watches, wallets, bags, etc., are sold in department stores and specialty retail stores in over 120 countries around the world, including in Malaysia.

This year, Fossil is celebrating 30 years of creativity, product innovation and graphic design. For its 30th Anniversary Tin-stallation exhibition, Fossil has extended an invitation to work with Limkokwing students in its worldwide tin-stallation project. The project got its name because the material used to create the project pieces consisted mainly of Fossil’s iconic watch tins.

According to Fossil, the company wished to collaborate with Limkokwing University on this project to highlight the creativity and brand presence for both organisations. “We are well aware that Limkokwing is known as Asia’s top art and design institution, nurturing talents at the pinnacle of creativity,” they added.

In the tin-stallation exhibition in Pavilion KL, Limkokwing University students from the Faculty of Design Innovation (FDI) were asked by Fossil to come up with a tin-stallation that would evoke the theme vintage. One of the students, Grace from Indonesia, said, “We have some inspiration from vintage objects and finally we picked the vintage telephone for the final outcome. I’m feeling so excited and so happy because this is all a new experience for me”.

17 FDI students, guided by two lecturers, took about a week to complete their tin-stallation. All the materials used were supplied by Fossil. The students stayed overnight to complete the tin-stallation at Pavilion before exhibition day. Student Kelly Chu said they receive good support from Limkokwing University and Fossil and all their needs were really taken care of. “I’m very happy to be in this team. I feel the design is very nice. And I really enjoyed the experience”, she added.

All the students participating the tin-stallation project received a Certificate of Appreciation and a limited edition Fossil watch each.

The Limkokwing students’ retro telephone tin-stallation will be exhibited to the public at the Fossil 30th Anniversary Tin-stallation exhibition in Pavilion KL from 20 to 26 October 2014. The public can go to the exhibition, guess how many square watch tins were used in the special tin-stallation model, and win special prizes from Fossil.
