His Royal Highness Sultan Ahmad Shah of Pahang’s celebrated the 40th anniversary of his reign in a Royal Banquet and Gala Dinner organised by Limkokwing University and Putrajaya International Convention Centre on Saturday, 15 November .

Attending the event beside the Sultan was the Sultanah Pahang, Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom, who is also the Chancellor of Limkokwing University.

Also present were the Prime Minister’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Pahang Chief Minister Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, Putrajaya Corporation President Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat and Limkokwing University President and Founder Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing. 

The event was celebrated with performances by the Limkokwing International Choir, the Limkokwing Dance Club and famous artists such as Datuk Hattan, Datuk Yusni Hamid, Datuk Malek Redzuan and Datuk Khatijah Ibrahim. A fashion show by the Limkokwing Fashion Club, featuring specially designed creations by the club and curated by Dato’ Tiffanee Lim to commemorate Sultan Ahmad Shah’s 40-year reign, was also held. 

Putrajaya Corporation President Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat in his welcoming address congratulated Sultan Ahmad Shah on the anniversary of his 40 years on the throne. He thanked the Sultan for four decades of prosperity under His Highness’ reign, saying that the Sultan was much beloved by his subjects for his benevolence towards the people of Pahang. 

Tan Sri Aseh also thanked the Sultan for his many contribution to sports, most notably in football, and said that the Sultan is instrumental in the setting up of the headquarter of the Asean Football Federation in Putrajaya.

Sultan Ahmad Shah is very keen in sports, and was good in golf, polo, equestrian, and especially football. He was the President of the Malaysian Football Association (FAM) from 1984 until 2014, the President of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) until 2002 and the President of Asean Football Federation (AFF) 2011.

HRH Ahmad Shah ibni Abu Bakar, born on 24 October 1930 at Istana Mangga Tunggal, Pekan is the fifth Sultan of Pahang, and also served as the seventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 1979 to 1984. He was the only son of Sultan Sir Abu Bakar Riayatuddin Al-Muadzam Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdullah Al-Mutassimu Billah Shah who reigned from 1932 to 1974, and succeeded his father as the Sultan of Pahang in May 1974.

Sultan Ahmad Shah is a very generous and benevolent ruler, and is very active in charity and philanthropy works. He is the patrons of several charity organisations, the foremost in which he is actively involved being the ‘Sultan Ahmad Shah Environment Trust (SASET)’.

The Sultan Ahmad Shah Environment Trust was established in 2010, with the motto of “Balancing people and nature”. The Trust has a simple aspiration, which is to preserve our environment, its iconic flora and fauna, its turtles, its mangroves, its rivers and its indigenous people. In the last years the Trust have held numerous events and started successful programmes in several districts within Pahang which include  
•‘Adopt a Kampung’ – village sponsorship programme.
•‘Temenggong Rangers Volunteer and Emergency Response Programme’ – jungle conservation and on the ground response teams.
•‘Greening Pahang Project’ – urban greening and re-forestation programme.
•‘Nurture through Nature’ programme –  education and awareness programme.

For the Royal Banquet and Gala Dinner, Limkokwing University and PICC have managed to raise RM400,000. The money raised will be donated to one of Sultan Ahmad Shah’s charity, the orphanage ‘Rumah Anak Yatim Taman Pengasih Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah’.

During the Royal Banquet and Gala Dinner, it was also announced that Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, President and Founder of Limkokwing University, has been appointed as the ‘Royal Ambassador of Creativity and Innovation’ by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Pahang. This is in recognition of Tan Sri Lim’s creativity and determination in reinventing and globalising education which has resulted in Limkokwing University’s recognition as Malaysia’s University of Transformation and University of Innovation by the Malaysian government.
