Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah Mohd Yusoff is the Vice President, International Relations at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Cyberjaya and has held the position since 2007. She has brought to the university a wealth of experience as a senior government officer and as a diplomat extraordinaire.

A graduate of the prestigious School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC, and the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur Dato′ Hamidah served as the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Republic of France in 2004 to 2006 prior to joining the University.

Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah began her illustrious career with the Government of Malaysia when she joined the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service in 1971. She worked in several divisions of the Prime Minister’s Department before her posting to Washington as Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia in Washington. In 1986 she received instructions to return home and to report for duty at the Prime Minister’s Office as the Special Officer to the former Prime Minister, YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir Bin Mohamad. Since then and until he stepped down in 2003, Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah served the Prime Minister faithfully and witnessed many political developments in the country.

Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah was proud to be part of the team under the Prime Minister that saw the elevation of Malaysia′s high profile and prestige overseas during Tun Dr Mahathir′s long tenure. Together with her colleagues in the Prime Minister′s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato′ Hamidah worked tirelessly in assisting the then Prime Minister in his official visits overseas, his meetings with world leaders, his attendance at the yearly summit meetings of the leaders of ASEAN, APEC, OIC, NAM, Commonwealth and Asia-Europe, and his address at the United Nations.

Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah′s duties also involved coordinating the visits of foreign leaders to Malaysia and their meetings with the Prime Minister. Many world leaders have called on the Prime Minister at his imposing office in Putrajaya. These included former leaders like the French President Jacques Chirac; South African President Nelson Mandela; Palestine President Yasser Arafat; British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; Cuban President Fidel Castro and many others too numerous to mention here.

This was a challenging and exciting time for Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah as besides meeting world leaders she was walking in the corridors of power. Under a dynamic and farsighted leader Malaysia was experiencing rapid economic development at home and became a model for developing countries to emulate. Every week a foreign delegation would visit Malaysia to learn the secrets of our success.

Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah travelled extensively during the course of her long stint in the Prime Minister′s Office and have visited many countries on the five continents, including many countries in Africa. This has put her in good stead as in her present position Dato′ Hamidah is required to visit our overseas campuses regularly.

Despite her busy schedule Dato′ Hamidah was able to devote some time for social work. She focussed on helping youth and women′s organizations. She was active in the Girl Guides Association, the Malaysian Association of Youth Clubs; the National Council of Women′s Organizations; the Women Graduates Association and the National Advisory Council for the Integration of Women in Development. She was also actively involved in the Malaysian Administrative and Diplomatic Service Association, having served in the Executive Committee for two terms.

In recognition of her contribution to society and the nation Ambassador Dato' Hamidah was conferred the Order of Dato′ Setia Di Raja Kedah (1999) by HRH The Sultan of Kedah; the Kesatria Mangku Negara (1991) by HM The Yang di-Pertuan Agong; the Order of the Sacred Treasure, (1991) by HM The Emperor of Japan and the Pingat Jubli Perak (1992) by HM The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam.

Never one to shirk any responsibility entrusted to her, Ambassador Dato′ Hamidah looks forward to carrying the Limkokwing and Malaysian flags further into Africa.
