Limkokwing University students gained a glimpse into the future of digitisation technology with T-Systems Malaysia ITO Product Manager (Cloud Services), Hung Yee Chan.

An industry veteran with 11 years’ experience in the IT industry, Yee Chan is also a pioneer in cloud enablement services such as the recently launched Open Telekom Cloud – the first public cloud solution in T-Systems. She has worked in a multinational corporation environment and is a certified Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) expert with multiple roles in her career.

During the T-Systems industry talk on 14 September 2017 at the Cyberjaya campus, Yee Chan shared her experience with more than 600 students from the Faculty of Information & Communication Technology and Faculty of Business Management & Globalization with a detailed description of the world’s digital growth.

“It is obvious that digitisation is happening,” she said. “The question is how will we handle it?”

She illustrated that during the last 10 years, the world has experienced impressive technical development.

“Digitisation is happening and changing the industry business model,” she explained.

For example, the amount of Internet users has increased from 15% to almost 50% of the world’s population while storage prices have decreased from USD 0.22 per GB to USD 0.03 per GB. The development has resulted with the Internet bandwidth doubling every two years.

“Furthermore, ‘to google’ has been established as a verb and added to dictionaries,” she said.

Yee Chan said lot of Cloud and Internet services were launched in the past 10 years such as Twitter, YouTube and Dropbox.

“This means that for businesses, technology alone is not enough,” she explained while adding that marketing, pricing and timing is key for any business development.

Her advice to Limkokwing University students was to be prepared for future business challenges by thinking ahead and embracing technological development such as T-System’s Open Telekom Cloud.

Yee Chan highlighted the importance of Cloud as a basis for digitisation and global competitiveness.

“Cloud as a basis for digitisation is a door-opener in almost any industry,” she explained. At the same time, she recommended students to explore opportunities in every digital environment.

Also presenting presenting for T-Systems at the industry talk were Head of Technical Expert Centre, Vijay Chouhan on business trends and opportunities in vCloud and AppAgile digital ecosystem, and Vice President GCU Americas & APAC IT Division, Global IT Operations (ITO), Andreas Truls.
