Limkokwing students from the Design Faculty were awarded with certificates of appreciation by the Botswana Society for the Arts during the BSA Mural Painting Project handover ceremony on 19 June 2015.

The Botswana Society for the Arts (BSA) is a non-profit organisation devoted to the development and promotion of the visual and performing arts. Limkokwing University and BSA collaborated together to organised the mural painting project, which took a week to complete, in an effort to improve Botswanan artists’ profiles and built up their portfolio.

During the hand-over ceremony, samples of the mural paintings that were painted on the exterior of the BSA premises at Molapo were exhibited so guests can appreciate the work done by the 26 Creative Fine Art students.

Present at the event was the BSA executive chairperson Jakes Motlhabane, who acknowledged the University’s partnership with BSA which started this year in April through a Memorandum of Understanding, where the University offered scholarships to the BSA worth P1200 000 for degree programmes.

Reiterating the significance of the partnership between the University and the BSA, Ms Mercy Thebe, Limkokwing Regional Director Corporate and Media Relations, in her speech said that, “Limkowing University will keep on promoting education and arts for the youth of Botswana towards excellence and eventually empower them to successfully compete for international awards on a global platform.”

A guest at the ceremony, Mr Luc Vandecasteel, of the Molapo Piazza Centre, gave a testimony of the impact of mural painting done by Limkokwing students in the community. He mentioned that mural painting they currently have at the Molapo Shopping Centre has garnered great attention. There are various responses from the public, both negatively and positively, which he stated to be a good sign because it showed that the public noticed and appreciated what they saw which adds value to the University as a brand.

Closing the ceremony, Mr Joseph Matome, the BSA patron, acknowledged the students contributions and stated that what these students have are the talents and skills which will contribute to the growth of the Botswana economy.
