Limkokwing  wins overall best institution at national AIDS initiative competition

Limkokwing University students triumphed once again at Ditshupo Hall at the National Talent Show hosted by Tertiary Education Council (TEC) in joint venture with local Institutions on Friday 20th September 2013.

Limkokwing University students triumphed once again at Ditshupo Hall at the National Talent Show hosted by Tertiary Education Council (TEC) in joint venture with local Institutions on Friday 20th September 2013. This event was themed “Gear up for AIDS to be Defeated, it’s All in your hands” and the aim was to provide campus based, youth friendly health and wellness services to students.

The show was graced by the Tertiary Education council, heads of local institutions and Assistant Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Honourable Mokgweetsi Masisi who was also invited as the guest speaker. Amongst the guest speakers was Oneal of Big Brother fame and Nicole Senuku of Yarona Fm. Entertainment was provided by local artists including Vee, Scar and ATI.

The project coordinator Margaret Baiketsi said that the aim of Vision 2022 is to have Batswana who are skilled and well educated, motivated and productive and emphasized that this can only be achieved if the youths of today take their education and talent seriously.
“This event will persuade the youth to engage in behavioural change and the aim is to drive the message to the youth through such activities as talent shows that will drive the message to the youth through entertainment,” she said.

The show was jam-packed with a fun line up as the youngsters showcased their talent in an assortment of categories such as debate, drama, beauty pageant, and poetry and art competitions. Limkokwing University won best overall institution at the Talent show when they scooped position one in the debate winning a cash prize of P5,000 and Art category winning P3,000 as well as position three in the Drama category winning P2,000.

Representing in the debate team were Tumo Mpatane and Gerald Mzwinila who brought out strong arguments in opposition to other teams. These two students will represent Limkokwing University at the Pan African Universities Debating Championships, in Nigeria. The artistic Tekanyo Modisaemang also showcased his pieces in the Art category.

The show which began at cluster level saw Limkokwing defeat other institutions in its group including BA ISAGO University, GUC, New Era and ABC to earn a spot at the final show held on Friday. This talent show is expected to bring tertiary students together every year.
