Students from the Faculty of Multimedia and Creativity received an in-depth look at their potential future career during a site visit to VHQ Media, Petaling Jaya on 21 April 2018.
The main purpose of the site visit was to inspire students and give them a glimpse of what to expect once they join the multimedia industry.
It was also to share with them tips of what makes great storytelling, project management tips, types of directors and how to manage client expectations.
VHQ’s offline senior editor Muhammad Harrisfadhilla Othman advised students to always research and study their clients upon taking on projects.
He mentioned that the main part of preparation includes having different versions of the client’s project in order to propose in time which one best fits the brief.
Trends
VHQ Media is a content house devoted to the art of storytelling.
They innovatively craft live action, visual effects, computer graphics and animation to produce compelling content across offline and online media platforms such as TV, digital and experiential landscapes.
The company’s content creation structure covers planning, ideation and post production.
On what trends to look out for in the multimedia industry, visual effects lead Olivier Ryard stated that it is beneficial for students to be aware of various trends in the multimedia industry to be able provide solutions across a spectrum of departments.
“This industry needs one to be aware of a lot of different techniques in order to solve problems we deal with on a daily basis. It’s hard to find one specific trend to look out for because we deal with a lot, starting from concept art, modeling and animation, everything is important because tasks overlap across different departments.
He also stressed the importance bridging the gap between academia and industries to provide students with skills that will set them off successfully onto their careers.
Valuable Lessons
Syrian student Kenan Al Zahabi studying Motion Graphics said, “I learnt a lot from this site visit today, especially about the workflow and plans of carrying out a project successfully.”
What stood out for Ghalib Mohammed bin Talib from Yemen was the level of professionalism teams at VHQ have.
At Limkokwing University, learning is not only in the classroom.
Students from across faculties are exposed to the industry standard of working through workshops, competitions, industry talks and site visits.
It is in this way that they graduate with much-needed skills to transition smoothly onto careers.
