A group of students who took part in the China-Malaysia Deaf Students Sponsorship programme delivered a special tribute on 15 December 2017 to Limkokwing University’s Founder and President.
The students created a hand-drawn tribute for Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Lim Kok Wing, as one of their personal heroes. As a gesture of appreciation, the students delivered the tribute in person to express their gratitude.
Limkokwing University received 15 students with hearing impairment from Zhengzhou Institute of Technology China on 25 July 2017. The students are the first group of students who took part in a six-month sponsorship programme that enabled them to learn English and Malay sign language.
The University is the only Malaysian education partner under the Malaysia-China Strategic Alliance, part of the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative.
Limkokwing University took the project to provide education for hearing-impaired students with financial difficulties. The project aims to empower hearing-impaired students to pursue their studies in an international environment that enables them to integrate into a multicultural society and give back to their community and country.
For 19-year-old Wang Xiona, the programme provided tremendous opportunity for her to explore other cultures and countries.
“Opportunities for students like us are very rare,” she explained through an interpreter. “It did more than open our minds to new opportunities but made our experience more enjoyable.”
She also added that she hopes that there would be more opportunities like this programme made available to other students around the world.
Limkokwing University is a university that emphasises the importance of community and social development. The University has collaborated with various organisations, institutions and government bodies to empower society and improve its economic status.
