Limkokwing University once again made headlines by producing the official theme song and video for the World Urban Forum 2018 in Kuala Lumpur. The following article written by Tan Sri Dato' Sri Paduka Dr Limkokwing was first published in The Star on 14 February 2018:
One of the key highlights of the 9th session of the World Urban Forum themed, “Cities 2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda” – held for the first time in Kuala Lumpur was a song about our very own capital city which left foreign dignitaries dancing and singing to the tune of “Kuala Lumpur”.
The catchy tune was launched and first performed by the Limkokwing University choir during the opening ceremony of #WUF9 in front of an audience of over 190 countries.
When singing the song, one will not only learn about the Forum’s focus on the New Urban Agenda as a tool and accelerator for achieving Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals but Kuala Lumpur’s progress as a model and connected green city as well.
From the MRT that connects the Klang Valley to The Exchange 106 skyscraper at the Tun Razak Exchange, the song aims to drive home the message that Malaysia is ahead of global standards for sustainable urban development even in the coming decades.
Accompanying the song is a “video” produced by Limkokwing University, featuring breath-taking views of Kuala Lumpur, highlighting the next level of progress under the vision of YAB Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Abdul Razak.
Kuala Lumpur has truly progressed from being a tin-mining town to one of the world’s most liveable cities.
It is my sincere hope that the foreign delegates who came from all over the world to identify and commit to the implementation of concrete solutions for the transformative commitments made in the New Urban Agenda, explore Kuala Lumpur and go home with WUF9’s song “Kuala Lumpur” etched in their hearts and minds.
