Students from the Sound & Music Design Academy (SMDA) showcased their talent and skills during the final project presentation held on 29 November 2017.
These final year students had to design products for a record label company to help promote an artist or performer.
For their project, they were tasked with creating a record label as well as album production for clients in the entertainment industry. These include music arrangement, poster designs, website and other related graphic designs required to promote an album.
The showcase was aimed at helping students to familiarise themselves with the music industry demands, allowing students to anticipate client’s needs while remaining adaptive in an industry that constantly changes.

This exposure enabled students to gain industry exposure to various styles of music including hip-hop, rap and more. Students prepared for unpredictable trends and new challenges in the music industry.
For Ugandan student Kiwe Isaac Kalema who was studying for a Bachelor in Recording Arts, the experience helped him a lot and allowed him to create the same level of quality products as industry professionals.
“Our lecturers at SMDA allow us freedom to create,” he said.
At the same time, the exposure allowed him to familiarise himself with various professional practises and ethical disciplines.
“Projects like these are helpful to students,” said fellow Recording Arts student Feras Ghannam of Syria. “When I go to work, it will help me to compete in the industry.”
“They don’t treat us like students and this gives us the experience in dealing with various clients.”
Limkokwing University provides students with industry exposure to enable graduates to succeed in competitive global industries. Students are also exposed to various cultures which enables them to adapt to various situations.
