Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS) students from Brunei recently completed their Global University Campus programme, an intensive enhancement programme at Limkokwing University on 8 Apr.
Thirty eight students received the Certificate of Achievement after concluding the two-week programme that prepare students for overseas study and career advancement.
KIGS is the first tertiary level institution to be accredited by the Brunei Government through Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC), Ministry of Education in 2003. The college provides Diploma courses for Brunei Darussalam Technical and Vocational Education Council (BDTVEC) and is the first college in the country to be accredited to run a 3-year full-fledged Degree programmes with Limkokwing University since April 2011.
The programme began on 29 Mar when Bruneian students arrived on campus to experience cultural diversity and creative approach through interaction with the University’s international students.
For Muhammad Samhan Bin Azamain, he grew up in a monoculture environment with little experience with another culture from his home country.
“In Brunei, we only interacted with Bruneians,” he explained. “But the unity of the culture at Limkokwing University enable us to learn other cultures from other countries.”
“Students here come a multicultural background and this gives me the opportunity to learn other cultures.”
He also said he was very impressed by campus’s nationalities and cultural diversity which offers multiculturalism experience in one location.
“I can learn more about new cultures by interacting with other international students,” he added.
Bruneian student Dayangku Amal Nadiah bt Dr Pg Hj Mohamed said she enjoyed University’s educational approach that encourage students to cultivate their creativity.
“We got to see a lot of student’s projects which are really eye-opening to see how much students can achieve when they work together,” she said.
“I also love seeing how students contribute to the economy by repackaging goods for Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs),” she said. “It is nice to see that students have direct impact to the economy.”
