Film, animation and multimedia students sat in a live demo of professional 3D software, MAXON Cinema 4D at the recent Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2013 at the Limkokwing Cyberjaya campus.
The demo was conducted by Singaporean company, IM Innovations Pte Ltd that operates the MAXON Competence Centre in Singapore in partnership with MAXON Computer, the Germany-based developer of Cinema 4D. IM Innovations Pte Ltd is the only ASEAN distributor of Cinema 4D.
IM Innovations Managing Director and Co-Founder, Vincent Ong said that Maxon’s 80,000 customers worldwide include big studios such as Disney and Sony, as well as companies in Malaysia such as Animasia, VHQ, Astro and TV3.
Cinema 4D features 3D modelling, animation and sculpting capabilities, similar to software such as 3D Studio Max and Maya. Cinema 4D’s defining feature is its low learning curve and ease of use. According to Ong, they are able to train high school students and kids as young as 11-years-old to use the software in just a few days.
The 40-minute demo was conducted by IM Innovations’ 3D Media Specialist, Venise Tham who showed the students how to create title animation, create objects through modelling, and also how to composite computer graphics into film or still images using Cinema 4D.
With this demo, students in attendance gained an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the main tools and features in the Cinema 4D software and learn about the possibilities offered by 3D visual effects in post-production.
