Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity (FFLC) students showcased their final projects in Creativity in Motion 2015: ‘Tribal Superheroes’ Fashion Show hosted at Starhill Gallery on 2nd July.

Creativity in Motion 2015, which was attended by various Malaysian fashion designers including Bon Zainal Harun, Zaihani Zain, Hatta Dolmat, and many more, was a part of the students’ final assessment. It integrated fashion and hairstyle designs under the main theme – a depiction of extinct and endangered tribes.

The fashion show was a unique platform for the 15 aspiring fashion designers and 10 emerging professional hairstylists to get their original creative designs recognised by industry professionals and recruiters, while celebrating their talents in creativity and innovation.

Hailing from seven different countries, the students successfully combined the main theme, their cultural backgrounds, as well as fresh original ideas into a vibrant fashion show, and in the end receive numerous compliments from various industry professionals.

Bon Zainal Harun, a fashion designer renowned for his clothing line Bon Zainal Menswear and the winner of Designer of Year 2014 Award by Mercedes-Benz STYLO Fashion Awards, said, “The fashion show markets these aspiring designers’ collections even before graduation. It will get them recognised and be helpful in their future career.”

He complimented the students for their promising talents, “I can see that these outfits are creatively well-planned. The fabrics are well-chosen, and the meticulous details are impressive. The students portray great understanding and advancement in educations. Overall, Creativity in Motion is exquisite.”

Bon Zainal went on and said, “They have impressive designs alongside Limkokwing background. I would consider them designing for my label.”

Indonesian graduating fashion design student, Tania Vania Hidayat said, “I am overwhelmed and satisfied with Creativity in Motion tonight, the exposure is eye-opening for an aspiring fashion designer like me.”

Tania, who won various competitions while studying at Limkokwing University, such as the Odioli Fashion Competition and the Sakura Collection in Asia Student Award 2014, thanked Limkokwing University for the fashion show, as it helped in exposing and marketing new designers.

“The lecturers helped me to develop valuable skills for the industry, by turning ideas into garments meticulously, and incorporating creativity.”

Dominated by dark colours, she titled her collection of four outfits ‘Vanished Whaea’, and took inspirations from the women of New Zealand’s Maori tribe.

FFLC lecturer, who also owned a fashion label by his name, Jasmi Rejab said, “Creativity in Motion is a platform for these students to showcase their designs to industry professionals.”

“Early exposure ensures students’ employability, as it enabled industry professionals to view the students transforming textbook to concrete and remarkable products,” he continued.

Proud, Jasmi went on and said that the students devoted enormous amount of time and effort on this, and their determination was inspiring.

“They worked hard night and day to finish this project. They came to me and other lecturers day by day for assistance. They asked for effective ways to develop ideas, and turn them into physical results. When turned into outfits, it was better than expected. They have inspired me as their own teacher.”

Limkokwing University recognises students’ creativity and innovation, and celebrate their talents through exhibitions, fashion shows, art performances, industry talks, and many more to prepare them in their future careers.
