Students from all faculties were briefed on the importance of Cyber Security education by President of EC-Council University, Lata Bavisi, during an industry talk on 29 August 2018 at the Hall of Fame.

The industry talk included discussions on several cases studies which offered greater insight into cyber security and how it was becoming increasingly important worldwide.

“The battlefield we are facing today is in the cyberspace. Look at the headlines being made daily, hack attacks, compromises, and vulnerabilities. There is so much data being compromised, it’s becoming a global concern today and nations are now thinking about security concerns more than ever,” Mrs. Bavisi said, painting a vivid picture of the current landscape of cyber insecurities globally.

She mentioned that there are about 3000 hack attacks every minute, with billions of records comprised.

“Cyber threats, attacks and compromises are projected to incur costs of up to 2 trillion dollars by next year and by 2020 you are looking at that number growing to 3 trillion dollars.”

After giving insights on the risks of cyber insecurity, Mrs. Bavisi emphasized that cyber security forms the basis of knowledge that any component and domain of study needs to have, whether one is holding a business, IT, engineering, medical or any other degree.

On Limkokwing University’s unique and creative approach to education, she said, “Limkokwing University has gotten this right. From today’s campus tour I saw its ability to not only look at the basis of education on the academic front but also to bring in a hands-on training platform for students which is absolutely essential.”
