I almost forgot that I was in a Malaysian University. It could have very well been in New York or somewhere in Europe for that matter. I am very impressed by the quality of work and the dedication of the students in those departments.

It is about the ever popular artiste, screen legend and singer P. Ramlee, an icon who had graced the silver screen since the 1950’s until his untimely death in 1973.

P. Ramlee who had acted in 66 films and sang more than 300 songs during what was described as the glowing shining era of Malay movies and performing arts.

The P. Ramlee musical will be performed in Singapore on May 17th onwards, and at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur on May 28 onwards. The rehearsals are being practiced by the performing artistes at the Limkokwing University’s Hall of Fame.

Introducing the new P. Ramlee

Datin Tiara, who is also the Limkokwing University’s International advisor for the Performing Arts, also announced Musly Ramlee will play the lead role of P. Ramlee.

Musly, who has the splitting image of the larger than life P. Ramlee takes over the role from Sean Ghazi in this highly acclaimed musical brought for the second season.

Tiara described Musly, a singer and impersonator, as someone who has exactly the same facial and movements of P. Ramlee.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I watched a recording of his audition, to see that he looked much like P. Ramlee and sounded like him.

He has captivated the imagination of Adlin Aman Ramlie who is the writer and director for this season, and when Datuk Zahim Al Bakry (associate director for season 2) auditioned him, they both agreed that Musly was P. Ramlee. I believe Musly will bring to the show a fresh interpretation of the character of P. Ramlee, and literally “bring to life” the persona of this great man, his interpretation of the character of P. Ramlee, and literally “bring to life” the persona of this great man.”

Musly on being selected said he was honored on being chosen by Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina to portray the larger than life legend as this was his first experience in theatre.

“I am basically a singer who had performed many P. Ramlee songs in the past, and I see this role as a transformation towards the performing arts,” he said.

Musly has “mastered” P. Ramlee from studying his past films and songs. “P. Ramlee” is in Musly – his physical features, style, voice, and now the production is working hard on inculcating the inner features of the screen legend inside Musly.

He sees his performance in this musical as doing something good and beneficial to the industry
