Alina Zhiyenbayeva from Kazakhstan

Alina Zhiyenbayeva had always been passionate about pursuing a BA (Hons) in Broadcasting and Journalism to become a famous journalist.

Choosing Limkokwing University

“I decided to study at Limkokwing University because it is the most creative university,” she said. “And I think it is the best place to study the course I wanted because the lecturers here are highly educated.”

She said her dream was to become a model and a journalist and added that the University’s multicultural approach offers her tremendous opportunities in the creative industry.

“I have studied in Malaysia for 2 years and I really liked it here,” she said.

She also added that the facilities and experienced lecturers at the University would enable her to establish a career and visibility with the public.

Learning about journalism

She learned that journalism is more than just reading from textbooks.

While studying at Limkokwing University, she came to realise that many aspects on journalism could only be learned from hands-on experience.

The university’s industry focused approach further enabled her to train with industry professionals which helped to expand her knowledge about the media industry.

She added that soft skills are especially important in a fast-paced and multicultural environment.

“When I started studying here, I was able to work with people from various countries,” she said. “This gave me the chance to meet different people and learn about different cultures.”

For her, Limkokwing University’s multicultural environment provided her with the opportunity to develop her personal and communication skills.

Helping Others

As a student ambassador, she participated in activities such as cultural festivals, charity functions and humanitarian initiatives.

“We organised bazaars and events at the Plaza to raise money for urgent global concerns,” she said. “For example, we rebuilt a school in the Philippines after it was destroyed by a hurricane.”

She realised she could help raise awareness on various cause and concerns by using her visibility as a student ambassador and model.

Her involvement with the Heal the World initiative has given her a deeper perspective about the world.

“The Heal the World Initiative is a good learning opportunity for me,” she added. “We learn how to give back to the world to make it better.”

She also said that the initiative encourages other students to develop skills and knowledge that would make them a positive influence to the world.

Future Plans

After completing her studies, she plans to pursue a career in fashion journalism while dedicating her life to bring greater change for the world.

“The University has changed my life because it brought me a lot of memories,” she said. “It has given me many interesting experience and taught me the value of friendship.”
