Freedom from Namibia shares insights on tapping into the tourism industry to create opportunities

Limkokwing University’s Doctorate Degree in Management student Freedom shares his insights on the tourism industry and how to better strategise to open more opportunities in developing countries.

Hailing from Namibia, Freedom highlighted that tourism is the third largest contributor to the country’s GDP. Annually the country receives over one million visitors, with roughly one in three coming from South Africa, then Germany and finally the United Kingdom, Italy and France.

“The World Bank has forecasted a hike in the tourism management industry. We need to develop ways to tap into that industry by looking at management strategies that will conserve our resources while at the same time, benefitting from those resources.”

Freedom is also gave us a rundown of his work as a Master of Arts in Contemporary Arts and Design Practice lecturer. “My day to day tasks include communicating with my students and going out on excursions and site visits. Those who major in branding can visit agencies and ask different questions so that they can apply the same knowledge into their final project.”

“As my students go for site visits, they compile a set of questionnaires and interview questions to engage with industry professionals to ensure that they are able to get the knowledge that they need as students here.”

“We share a lot in our workplace and also formally in our meetings, I learned a lot from my colleagues from different parts of the world and also informally in our conversations. We’re able to talk about our countries, what we face and how we want to make the world a better place.”
