China is one of the oldest civilisations in history and is currently the world’s second biggest economy.

With a prosperous history spanning 5,000 year history, China is steeped in tradition with rich cultural heritage that was heavily influenced by Confucianism. Throughout its long history, China has contributed to medical development, technological growth and philosophical thought.

The country is historically one of the most enduring civilisations in the world with various cycles of prosperity and decline. Modern China is now the world’s second largest economy by Nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

China has 56 distinct ethnic groups with the majority comprising of Han Chinese which is also the world’s largest single ethnic group. The country has as many as 292 languages which includes Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka, Xiang and Gan.   

Today, Modern China is widely recognised an economic and industry powerhouse that is known to rival the US in terms of production capability and financial resource. The country is currently a global hub for manufacturing and the world’s largest exporter of goods. It is also the world’s fastest growing economy in the world.

China is currently home to seven of the world’s megacities, namely Chongqing, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Tianjin, Shenzhen and Wuhan.

China is also famous for its highly diverse cuisine, with numerous styles based on culinary history and geography. Chinese cuisine is known for its wide variety and sophisticated cooking methods. Traditional Chinese medicine has developed alongside culinary progress which has offered alternative treatment to several illness.
