Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cyber crime prevention.
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology and the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cyber crime prevention efforts.
The MoU was signed by Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) Director, Datuk Wira Syed Ismail Syed Azizan and Limkokwing University Senior Vice President, Datuk Raja Aznil Raja Hashim. The formality was witnessed by Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin and Limkokwing University Founder and President, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Lim Kok Wing.
“Me and all the staff at PDRM would like to thank everyone at Limkokwing University especially to Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing who has opened the way for co-operation and to assist the police in the cyber crime prevention campaign,” said Bakri.
Bakri added, “Limkokwing University is a leading institution in higher education of multimedia that produces graduates who are creative and innovative. Thus, with work and expertise, I am confident that Limkokwing University is an accurate and affordable line for police together to produce animations, video clips and posters that will be used in the cyber crime prevention campaign to be implemented.”
According to the Sophos Security Threat Report 2013 by the firm SOPHOS USA, in the first three months of this year, Malaysia was ranked the sixth in world of high-risk exposure to the threat of cyber crime such as malware attacks and fraud on the Internet.
Bakri shared that the losses amounted to RM1.115 billion with 8,920 of the 11,543 reported cases solved and 3,712 people arrested last year.
“It’s about time for us to do something about this issue because we are dealing with lots of young people. Most of the scams are targeted towards them. Regarding the content for this campaign, Limkokwing University will prepare for any types of medium in terms of mobile, website and social media with the guidance of PDRM to get across the targeted audiences,” said Aznil during the press conference.
“We hope that the TV station, radio station and the press will come forward to support this noble cause,” added Aznil.
Limkokwing University will assist the Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) PDRM in providing materials such as video clips, posters, and also advise on the implementation of the cyber crime prevention campaign strategy through the five-year contract.
