Limkokwing University international community joined the world in grief by holding a memorial service for the passengers of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17).

On 17 July 2014 we we’re told of the shocking loss of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. It was later confirmed that the Amsterdam - KL flight was shot down by a missile, from as yet to be ascertained party, and went down in war-torn Ukraine with the total loss of all 298 passengers and crew on board.

Today, the first batch of the remains arrives home. As the Government has declared today, Friday, 22 August 2014, as a national day of mourning, the international community of Limkokwing University joined the nation in grief by holding a memorial service for the passengers of the ill-fated flight.

At 10.55am, the staff and students at Limkokwing University stand together with the rest of the nation for a minute of silence.

Gathering at The Plaza, the Limkokwing community hold the minute silence then gave a short prayer service before representatives from the various international communities took to the stage giving their eulogy and mourning the lost lives on board flight MH17.

We stand together in remembrance of Flight MH17. We stand together as a nation and mourn this senseless and cruel loss of life in a despicable act of war of a conflict that has nothing to do with us.

Let us be united in remembrance and let us pray for the beautiful souls that were taken away from us. We stand together with the families of those on Flight MH17. We remember them with a sense of loss too. We honour the memory of those who died.

“When you’re coming home,
You won’t be alone,
We’ll be standing strong
For you alone…”
